Memory of the town, its institutions, its places, its events, its people,
The Archives are a public service, which access is free, in charge with collecting, keeping, classifying, communicating, promoting all the documents produced by the services and the municipal public buildings, by the private archives (purchases, donations and legacy) in order to make information accessible to all : elected, municipal services and individuals.
- The funds
Most of the funds concern the city of Narbonne since XIIth century until today.
The old Archives: 1148 to 1789.
In the number of collections and the composition of funds which reflect the extension of the skills of the municipal institution, the deliberations of the city councils (1557), the constitutive and political actions of the city (1148) and the collection of the tax records of taxation and accounting (1255) were part of the richest and most important in France. To this we must add all the records of the 5 churches in Narbonne (1569), les Archives from the hospitals (XIIth) and a multitude of documents regarding agriculture, industry, national and international trade, culte, support, military affairs…
The modern Archives : 1790 à 1983.
From the different services of the municipal administration, gradually created from 1790, these archives are especially rich: files and deliberations of the city council, decrees, census, military affairs, police, voters, public buildings, civil status, building permits, land registration and land taxes …
The Contemporary Archives : from 1983.
Coming from payment from all the municipal services, if, today, there are instruments of decisions and administrative evidence, there will be the subject of History’s future.

View and communication of documents and books
It can only be done while there, in the reading room and within the deadlines set by law, from Monday to Friday, from 8:15 am to 11:50 am and from 2 pm to 6 pm..
The staff of the Archives welcomes and guides the readers in their research.

Search by mails
The service answers to precise and briefs requests by mail by mentioning the document references and the used sources to the searchers. However, the searchers are in no way required to do research instead of readers only the requests for administrative or legal reasons (land registry, retirement, inheritance) receive a specific welcome and support.

Reproduction of documents
Insofar as the state of the documents allows it, the reproduction (photocopy for the documents not binded, photos, scans), is possible either by the service at a cost, or by the reader, after being allowed.
