For several years the Town of Narbonne has offered diverse cultural activities which are based on meeting, exchange and talk about several domains.

History of Art and Literature are two essential fields of the cultural programming and give rise to events and festive meetings such as the Salon Littérature Jeunesse or the Printemps des Poètes but also conferences throughout the year, such as the conferences about the History of Art and the Architecture Wednesdays.

• Le Salon Littérature Jeunesse.

The Town of Narbonne organizes a Salon de Littérature Jeunesse since 2003, in partnership with the Education Nationale, the Médiathèque of the Communauté d’Agglomération and the booksellers of Narbonne.

Winning increasing success over the years with the public (more than 6 000 visitors in 2009) and contributors committed in the project, in particular, among more than 2,000 young people associated with the organization and progress of the show during three days.

In 2010, the eighth edition will take place from 27 to 29 May.

Throughout the years, the young ones realize various works inspired by their reading. During the three days of the show, the young ones meet the writers in the schools but on the shelves of the booksellers, place of the Hotel de Ville. The young ones award the Prix Gragnotte to the invited writers.

This reading challenge is mobilizing more than 2,000 young, real contributors of the Salon and of the success won since its 1^st edition alongside the professional teams of the Médiathèque of the Grand Narbonne, Communauté d’Agglomération, and Booksellers.

• Le Printemps des Poètes

Each year, during the event Printemps des Poètes, the Town of Narbonne associated with this national event through a varied program offering public lectures, exhibitions, meetings and performances.

Thanks to an active partnership wxith the associations of Narbonne (Les Mille Poètes, Lettres et Arts Septimaniens, Terpsichore) and with the Education Nationale, Narbonne is filled with the sound and rythm of poetry and poets in several places in the town centre.

In 2010, "Couleur Femme", is the theme of this 12^th edition of the Printemps des poètes, which in Narbonne will also honor Pierre Reverdy for the 50^th anniversary of his death.

• The Conferences of History of Art

In 2008, the Town began its first annual cycle of Conférence d’Histoire de l’Art. This program offers one Wednesday per month, at 6:30 pm, a conference on the History of Art, most often linked with the history and heritage of Narbonne, or sometimes in accordance with an exhibition or concomitant cultural event.

• Les Mercredis de l’Architecture

Since September 2009, The Town has begun its first annual cycle of conference about Architecture.

The School of Chaillot integrated with the Cité of the Architecture and of the Patrimoine issues each year within through its training, a series of courses in architectural history specialized in the conservation and architectural, urban, landscape restoration, as well as architects and town planner of the State.

Through the label « Ville d’art et d’histoire », in its willingness to open and make aware every type of audience on all the aspect of its architectural heritage, the town of Narbonne has the pleasure to host these classes taught by historians and famous architects.

Architect, Town planner, High school student, student or individual, the Town offers to all interested audiences to discover under the form of free monthly screenings in the beautiful surroundings of the Palace of the Archbishops of Narbonne.
